A new book written by Jenny Brown, CEO and Founder of JBS Financial Strategists, aims to place the basics of retirement planning into the hands of consumers.

Retirement: The Great Escape Plan is based on Brown’s more than 33 years of client experience, industry leadership, and behavioural insight.

She describes her book as offering a “deeply human approach to one of the most important transitions Australians face”.

“The book blends technical expertise with storytelling, bringing to life the emotional, financial and psychological realities of retirement,” she says.

The book was written during the course of last year and features more than 30 real-life stories to help illustrate common issues faced by those planning their retirement.

“It will at the very least start to steer readers in the right direction,” she says.

It also provides broad-brush guidance to those who are on the cusp of retirement or who have already retired.

“At its heart, this book is about replacing fear with clarity and confidence,” says Brown. “Retirement isn’t the end, it’s the beginning of a lifestyle you get to define.”

Split into four sections, the book covers topics such as budgeting for fun, health, avoiding scams, elder abuse, and the realities of ageing.

“Advice must be both practical and personal, and retirement should be seen as a vibrant new chapter rather than a cliff edge,” says Brown.
