This year’s prestigious ALUCA TurksLegal Scholarship has been awarded to BT Financial Group Claims Consultant, Lara Neate, for her essay on the future of Australia’s life insurance industry.

The Scholarship, which is open to members of the Australasian Life Underwriting and Claims Association, offers life insurance professionals a unique educational opportunity to attend one of three major international life insurance conferences of their choice, while contributing to the ongoing debate on cutting-edge issues affecting the future of risk insurance in Australia.

Ms Neate’s paper, on the topic ‘Australia 2050’, explored how the products offered by the insurance industry would be relevant to a country where the population over 65 years had doubled to 35% and the growth of the traditional workforce population had slowed to almost zero.

John Myatt, Lead Partner of TurksLegal’s Financial Services practice and member of the judging panel, said Lara’s paper canvassed an exciting range of solutions to Australia’s ageing population, including examining the impact of consumer education and medical research and technology.

“The judges thought Lara’s paper was an outstanding and insightful contribution to one of the most important questions the industry needs to address,” Mr Myatt said.

First runner up, Natalie Agnoletto, a Senior Claims Consultant at TAL, produced an essay on ‘Health care benefits – early intervention and rehabilitation’, and second runner up, CommInsure Case Manager, Rachel Tritton, wrote about ‘Growing the next generation of risk professionals’.

The winners were announced at the 2014 ALUCA Conference Gala Awards Dinner, held in Maroochydore last week.
