Fiona Navarro Wins Life Risk Champion of the Year Award

MLC Risk Specialist Network’s Fiona Navarro has been named the risk store’s 2010 Life Risk Champion of the Year.

Ms Navarro is National Manager Protection Advice within the MLC Risk Specialist Network, a specialist risk adviser sub-group within the MLC distribution network, which Ms Navarro has been instrumental in creating and developing.

Joining Ms Navarro in the top three this year were Asteron GM, Jordan Hawke and CommInsure’s Executive Manager Business Growth Services, Jeffrey Scott.

Now in its third year, the risk store Life Risk Champion of the Year recognises  individual achievement and dedication within the Australian life insurance industry and is the result of an industry-wide nomination and judging process.

Previous winners of the Award are:

  • 2009: Peter Sobels (riskinfo)
  • 2008: David Mico (IFSA)

In accepting her Award, Ms Navarro acknowledged her colleagues within the MLC Risk Specialist Network team and spoke of her drive towards ongoing efforts to help build adviser capability, particularly in the areas of estate planning and business succession planning.  Her message to advisers is that “… you can change people’s lives.”

For those considering nominating a colleague for the 2011 risk store  Life Risk Champion of the Year, the criteria for the Award describe the individual as:

  1. Identified as being associated with Life Risk issues in Australia
  2. Having a demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for Life Risk
  3. Having sound knowledge of the Life Risk industry in at least one significant area
  4. Having the will and capacity to influence and initiate welcome or necessary change and new ideas
  5. Having some kind of recognisable, direct or indirect distribution influence (doesn’t necessarily need to work in distribution)
  6. Contributing by their actions and/or role to the education of stakeholders, which could include:
  • Advisers
  • Licensee principals
  • Consumers
  • Insurers
  • Regulators
  • Associations
