The Million Dollar Round Table organisation (MDRT) is holding its 2010 Annual Meeting this week in Vancouver, Canada.

More than 6,000 people are attending this event, which offers financial advisers a vast array of tools, tips, information and inspiration to take back with them to enhance the quality of both their business and personal lives.

The Meeting, which runs from 13 to 17 June, comprises high quality and inspirational main platform presentations as well as a huge choice of focus sessions from which advisers can select.

The main platform speakers have so far spoken on a variety of topics at the Meeting, from challenging advisers to revisit the limits of their capabilities, both as business people and in their personal lives, to inspiring all to embrace the life insurance profession as one of the most important professions in the world, to exploring the personal challenges presented to advisers and clients when health issues and accidents arise.

One of the key messages to all advisers at the first main platform session came from long-standing US-based  MDRT adviser, Phillip C Richards.  In sharing his story and that of his son, Mr Richards told his audience that, as advisers, they have a fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interests of their clients.  This is the first of the MDRT’s seven-point code of ethics:

Always place the best interests of your clients above your own direct or indirect interests

This code is practised by all MDRT members and the overwhelming majority of advisers everywhere, without being required to do so by legislation.

A sample of the Focus Sessions include:

  • Back to Basics: Your “Secret” to Success
  • Stand Out: Differentiate or Disappear
  • The Business Protection Gap: Expert Advisers Required Urgently
  • 6 Steps to a Fearless Referral Conversation
  • Learning From Your Relationships
  • Win the “Second Sale” With New Underwriting Tools, Techniques and Technology
  • Tax Wise Distributiion Strategy for Retirement
  • Split Dollar is Alive and Well
  • Sensational, Innovative Strategies to Grow Your Business

This year, the MDRT is also undertaking an extensive charitable service project, involving delegates to package meals for the worlds’ underprivileged and starving peoples – The Million Meal Challenge.

Because of membership qualification requirements, the 6,000+ advisers attending the MDRT 2010 Annual Meeting represent the the top 1% of the top 1% of advisers around the world.

… these are the best adviser meetings / conferences in the world

A strong contingent of Australian MDRT advisers is attending the Annual Meeting, many of them telling riskinfo that in their opinion, these are the best adviser meetings/conferences in the world, due to the diversity and relevance of the speakers and focus sessions, the motivation they gain by listening to others, and by the valuable and free exchange of ideas and insights between fellow delegates.

riskinfo will report on a number of Focus Sessions next week.
