The names of the six finalists in the 2010 AFA Adviser of the Year Award have been announced.

The finalists are:

  • Chris Browne: (Vic) Financial Design for Life
  • Jason Churchill: (Qld) CCS Insurance Solutions
  • Jonathan Hoyle: (NSW) Stanford Brown
  • Peter Nonnenmacher: (NSW) Macarthur Financial Planning
  • Steve Salvia: (WA) Southern Financial Strategies
  • Nicholas Sinclair: (Qld) Wealthfarm Financial Planners

Sponsored by Zurich since its inception, there have been a record number of entries in 2010, the eighth year in which the Award has been presented.

This year has also seen a continuing trend in the diversity of advisers who have nominated for the Award.  Candidates, including the six finalists, range from risk specialists to general practitioners through to investment and superannuation experts.

According to Zurich’s General Manager – Life Risk, Colin Morgan, the bar is continuing to be raised in terms of the calibre of candidates and the businesses they run, which has led to the naming for the first time of three advisers in the Highly Commended category, who are:

  • Marc Bineham: (NSW) Noall & Co
  • Gerard Lowe: (Vic) Lowe Financial Group
  • Paul Rawson: (NSW) Finance Control

“The fact that this is the first time the judges have named three highly commended advisers, as well as the finalists, demonstrates the calibre of advisers in today’s industry,” said Mr Morgan.

“Choosing the finalists for this year’s Award has been more difficult than ever before,” added AFA CEO Richard Klipin, who continued, “The judges decided that by introducing a Highly Commended category they could formally recognise the outstanding talent of those advisers who came within a hair’s breadth of making the final round.”

This year’s winner will be announced at a gala dinner on the final night of the AFA National Conference 2010, taking place on the Gold Coast later this month, from 24 – 26 October.
