FPA Launches MP Discussion Guide

In its call to all financial advisers to discuss the FoFA reforms with their local MP, the Financial Planning Association (FPA) has released a discussion pack designed to… “ensure that as many politicians as possible have a clear understanding of the issues facing the financial planning industry and consumers.”

The FPA says its “Meet your local Member” Pack is a comprehensive discussion guide for planners looking to engage with their local MP.

“FoFA represents a significant opportunity to improve access to affordable advice for all Australians and we’ve been working closely with the Government to ensure we achieve the best outcome for both the industry and consumers,” FPA CEO Mark Rantall said.

We’d encourage all planners to talk to their local member about FoFA  and the impact it will have on their business and clients

“We’d encourage all financial planners to talk to their local member about the reform package and the impact it will have for their business and clients.  We hope the FPA FoFA Pack will arm them with the right tools to fully engage in this important debate,” Mr Rantall added.

The “Meet your local Member” pack contains a range of documents, including:

  • An introduction letter which advisers can send to their local member by way of introduction.
  • A fact sheet which provides an overview of financial planning.
  • Financial planning customer case studies to illustrate the value of advice.

It also outlines the FPA’s position on key issues such as the banning of commissions, fiduciary duty, opt in and intra-fund advice.

The FPA also called on its members to notify the association if they have secured a meeting with their local member, to ensure a “consistent message from industry is delivered”.

The pack has been sent to all FPA practitioner members.  For more details of  the pack, click here.
