MLC Extends Best Doctors Service

MLC’s Best Doctors service offer will be expanded to include a range of online tools including a service which coordinates overseas medical appointments.

Clients holding MLC’s Critical Illness insurance, and their family, will now be able to access a second medical opinion by submitting their request online to Best Doctors, an expansion of the existing telephone-based InterConsultation service.

Subsequently, if a client receives an InterConsultation report that recommends surgery overseas, the new FindBestCare service can help them coordinate the logistics of the process.  MLC says this can include managing the information flow between medical specialists, monitoring of treatment processes, assistance with hospital admittance and medical appointments, and travel arrangements.

General Manager of Advice Product at MLC, Sean McCormack, said the group was thrilled to be able to provide new and innovative services to its clients.

“We strongly believe insurance is about more than simply a contract between insurer and client.  It’s a promise to deliver financially as well as provide information and support when clients need it most,” Mr McCormack said.

The other new services available via Best Doctors include:

  • Doctor Online – Clients can submit non-emergency medical questions to a doctor online, with a response returned within 48 hours
  • Multimedia library – An online library of 300 education videos covering various medical conditions

The insurer is also launching a client-focused television commercial and microsite to increase awareness of the service among consumers.
