Regeneration, Relevance – Challenge to Advisers

The AFA’s 2016 Genxt Connect Tour has been issuing a challenge to all advisers relating to their continued relevance in a changing consumer environment.

Delivered in both theoretical and practical settings, the Melbourne leg of this national roadshow tour asked all advisers (not just those new to the advice sector) to re-examine their business and their advice proposition and, if merited, consider re-engineering and re-creating their business and their client relationships.

Consistent messages to the diverse Melbourne audience of 270 included the need for advisers to appreciate how their community is changing around them, and the impact this will have in terms of how they can and will add value for their clients in future.

While the original AFA Genxt an initiative was designed for the next generation of financial advisers, its ‘narrative’ appears to have evolved to embrace issues that are of critical relevance for all advisers.

These messages, designed with the intention of ‘building the bridge between theory and practice’, were delivered in presentations that focused on:

  • Business perspectives (Stewart Bell)
  • Risk perspectives (Chris Unwin)
  • Investment perspectives (Matt Heine)

All three encouraged their audience to reflect on how things have been done in the past and how a changing local and global environment dominated by consumerism and technology may offer new ways for advisers to deliver value in the future.

Three advisers – Kylie George, Charles Badenach and Ryan Watson, also took turns to share with their peers their own advice and business journeys, in a way that offered different perspectives on how each of their businesses have evolved in a changing world.

Theory morphed into practice in a series of workshops which offered advisers the opportunity to apply how their own key ‘take-aways’ from the presentations could apply to their own businesses and to how they relate with their clients.

Roadshow events in Sydney and Brisbane this week will mark the completion the 2016 AFA Genxt Connect Tour.
