The FAAA has “lauded” Minister for Financial Services, Stephen Jones, for engaging with 230 advisers in a series of seven open-industry events.

The association says the events were co-hosted by seven associations from the Joint Associations Working Group, culminating in a final briefing in Canberra.

Stephen Jones …had been upfront about how the Government will tackle a range of issues

The Canberra event was hosted by the FAAA, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, CPA Australia, the Institute of Public Accountants and the SMSF Association. Other events were coordinated with the FSC and SIAA.

The FAAA says that during the series of events, held across Australia between June and October, Jones spoke about the government’s response to the Quality of Advice Review and took questions from financial advisers and other participants.

FAAA General Manager for Policy, Advocacy and Standards, Phil Anderson, thanked Jones for taking the time to answer questions from members, noting he had been upfront about how the Government will tackle a wide range of issues affecting the financial advice profession including:

  • The Quality of Advice review
  • The urgency of rebuilding adviser numbers,
  • The significant increase to the ASIC levy
  • Adviser access to Centrelink and ATO portals

He added that financial advisers will have further opportunity to engage with Jones when he speaks at the FAAA Congress in November.

“The FAAA looks forward to continuing its consultations with the Minister and using its voice to make sure the issues and concerns of our members are considered…”
