Pilot Program Designed to Speed up Underwriting

A new service designed to speed up the delivery of client medical reports to underwriters is currently being trialled in Sydney and Melbourne.

Called medEbridge, this technology-based solution, released by medical services firm, Unified Healthcare Group (UHG), is set up to link direct to the desktop computer of the client’s doctor.

The process involves an association between UHG and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.  The College’s business entity, Oxygen, utilises an ‘e-health’ resource that links with doctors’ desktop systems. Through this link, the medEbridge application securely extracts the required medical information from the doctor’s systems.

In utilising this new service, UHG is seeking to meaningfully reduce the average time it takes for the collection and delivery of medical reports.

UHG says the system will be available to advisers who submit insurance applications via UHG’s current institutional clients, which include: AMP, AXA, Zurich, Macquarie, OnePath and Westpac.

UHG’s Managing Director, Dr Brandon Carp, said “… the new solution will streamline the collection of medical information required by life insurance companies, reducing the time it takes to process a new policy so it is a win for planners and their customers.”

The program is intended to be rolled out nationally, following the successful completion of the pilot program, which UHG says is delivering excellent results to date.
