New Zurich App Service for Androids

Zurich Financial Services has announced it is the first Australian life company to to release its own App for use on Android versions of smart mobile phones and tablets.

The Zurich App for Androids is the insurer’s quoting and field underwriting software package; its release signifying the increasing volume of of Android smartphones and tablets that are being utilised by advisers and paraplanners in the Australian market.

Guardian Advice Appointment

Guardian Advice has announced the appointment of Wes King to the role of WA State Manager.

Mr King will be responsible for managing and growing Guardian’s advice network in WA, by attracting and retaining key advisers and finding growth opportunities for the business.  He will also help advice practices to grow through practice management and coaching.

Commenting on Mr King’s appointment, Guardian Advice Executive Manager, Simon Harris, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Wes to Guardian.  I’ve known Wes personally for a number of years and can attest to his good character, and more importantly, his passion for quality advice.”

Mr King joins the company on 3 November.

Matrix Adds New Practice

Newcastle-based practice PSI Investments (PSII) has become a member firm of Matrix Planning Solutions.  PSII services a quality range of clients across areas including investment, superannuation, personal insurance and succession planning.

Chief Executive of PSII, Wayne Lowe, said: “What attracted us to Matrix was the similar culture of our businesses, along with the support to enable us to expand the range of services and product offerings available to clients, and access to both broader and deeper research capabilities.”

Matrix says it is looking to attract a further 10 practices nation-wide and plans to grow to approximately 120 advisers.

ASIC Commissioner Changes

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has appointed two new Commissioners: Peter Kell and Greg Tanzer.

Mr Kell was previously the Deputy Chair of the ACCC and Chief Executive of CHOICE.  Mr Tanzer has been the Secretary General of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and spent a number of years as ASIC’s Executive Director for Consumer Protection and Internaltional.

ASIC Chairman, Greg Medcraft, said:  “I welcome both Mr Tanzer and Mr Kell back to ASIC.  Each has considerable regulatory experience and will replenish ASIC’s leadership at the commissioner level.”

ASIC will farewell current Commissioner, Michael Dwyer, whose term expires in December.
