BDMs Could do Better – Poll

Our latest poll appears to add weight to a recent report which found that a significant gap exists between advisers and BDMs when it comes to the perception of the value BDMs have been providing during the pandemic.

The report, by Business Health, found that while 47 percent of BDMs believe they have added significant value for advisers during the pandemic, only 19 percent of advisers are of the same opinion. (See: Advisers, BDMs Out of Step in Perception of Value Delivered).

And this disparity in opinion was evident in our latest poll with nearly six out of ten respondents (58 percent) agreeing that the service quality they have received from BDMs has fallen away during the pandemic.

However nearly a quarter (24 percent) felt the value of service they had received from BDMs was about the same with another 14 percent seeing the level of service as generally better than it was before the pandemic. Just four percent were not sure.

Perhaps it comes down to the strength of the relationship between the adviser and the BDM or, as Business Health stated in its report:

When the entire world seems to be gripped by fear and uncertainty, business relationships can be truly tested. Many bonds will be strengthened when forged in the fire of this chaos but alternatively, there will be a high price paid by those who were seen to be ‘missing in action’ when they were needed most.”
