The scary prospect of the almost inevitable moment your business becomes the subject of a cyber attack forms the basis for our latest poll.

As starkly outlined by The Cyber Collective’s Fraser Jack at the Riskinfocus 23 CPD Tour events in recent weeks, it’s not a case of if, but rather when, a cyber attack on your advice business will occur.

When it comes to the preparedness of your business for such an attack, Jack addresses the multiple challenges in three stages, namely before, during and after attacks take place (see: The Three Stages of Cyber Security).

Amongst other sobering reflections, Jack channels boxer Mike Tyson’s famous words that “…everyone has a plan ’til they get punched in the mouth”; his point being that while advice businesses think they have their ducks in place, it can often be a very different experience when the reality of a cyber attack actually hits.

Fraser Jack asks his Riskinfocus 23 audience to consider whether they treat the asset that is their business the same or differently to how they would protect a diamond…

Jack shares best practice strategies and solutions across each of the three stages of a cyber attack, which all serve to mitigate the impact of potential attacks on the business. What our poll is seeking to determine is the extent to which you think you’ve already implemented these or similar mitigating processes, systems and staff training sessions.

Are you behind the 8-ball when it comes to your business readiness to confront a cyber attack? Or have you already taken sufficient steps to the extent that you’re not losing sleep worrying about the security of your business data and, importantly, the often highly sensitive client data that you hold?

Be brutally honest with your assessment! Tell us where you think your business is positioned at the moment on this question and we’ll report back next week.

Is your advice business ready – really ready – to mitigate the impact of a cyber attack…? This slide from Fraser Jack’s presentation at Riskinfocus 23 made audiences around the country sit up and take notice.
