Individual risk lump sum sales were virtually flat in the year to March 2026, up a marginal 0.3% to reach $1,305.9 million, according to Plan for Life’s latest Market Overview.

The researcher’s data shows this compares with individual risk lump sum sales growing by just 1% to $1,301.4 million in the year to March 2025.

The firm also reports new premium sales for individual IP and Business Expenses  increased by 7.4% to hit $529.9 million in the year to March 2026. This compares with a drop of 11.4% a year earlier.

An almost 60% reduction in group risk sales during the period meant total new business sales fell 15.7%. This compares with the year to March 2025, where annual overall growth in risk sales was 10.6%.

2025 data

In the year to December 2025 while overall risk new business was down – due to group risk sales returning to more normal levels –  the research firm reported an increase of 6.7% in reported individual lump sum insurance sales and 8.3% in individual IP new business (see: Lump Sum IP New Business Up).

That growth across the full 2025 year followed a modest increase reported in the year ending September 2025, which saw individual lump sum and IP new business increase by 3.5% and 0.5% respectively.
